Ben Franklin's vision for a Pennsylvania Academy, as explained in his "Proposals for Educating the Youth of Pensilvania", was realized in January 1751. After developing and implementing his plan, he was instrumental in its administration. He hired the first provost and served on the Board of Trustees for five years. Today the Academy is called the University of Pennsylvania.
